We Need to Talk About Kelly Rowland’s Killer Transitional Style

Mastering the art of a chic and smart style transition from winter to spring is no easy feat. We’re taking cues from Kelly Rowland on how to really step out this season.

That tricky time between winter and spring is always one that requires a keen knowledge of what will and won’t work.

The balancing act between wanting to break out of restrictive winter gear and also being prepared for that random gust of cold air is a tough one.

The truth is that there’s an art to transitional dressing and it has come to our attention that Kelly Rowland (and her genius of a stylist Ade Samuel) may have mastered that art. We’re always in awe of Kelly’s style and are never ashamed to admit that, but there’s something about her wardrobe lately that displays a real skill.

What really sets Rowland’s transitional look apart is the perfect use of light and stylish outerwear, fun prints, chic two-piece sets and stark contrast. These looks prove that suits are never a bad idea, especially when you need something versatile, and playing with prints helps bring that element of spring into any look.

Winnie Harlow Gets Real About Confidence, Real Beauty and Giving Back

The model opens up about her time in Kenya and her work with the ME to WE charity.

We all know Winnie Harlow as the drop dead gorgeous supermodel who’s never afraid to speak her mind and is a huge advocate for diverse beauty.

While making strides in the fashion industry is one of her major priorities, it’s far from the only one. On top of being a bombshell, Harlow is all about making a larger impact. The beauty let Coveteur in on her getting ready routine as she prepared to speak about empowerment at the WE Day in New York and she had a few gems to drop about confidence, true beauty and giving back.

“I think it is human nature to have confidence—the same way I don’t think people are born with racism or anything negative. All those things are developed, ” she shared. “I think we’ll always have our insecurities, but it’s important to focus on yourself. “

The model touched on kids being far ahead of adults when it comes to acceptance.

“Kids are the most sensible—they grab onto things easier than [adults] do. We, as adults, have been taught these notions for so long and are set in our ways. I was at my friend’s house about seven years ago, and she had a little cousin who came over to visit. She came up to me and said, ‘Why is your skin like that?’ I said, ‘I have a skin condition called vitiligo.’ Mind you, she was six years old. She was like, ‘You are so pretty and so different.’ That is what she was taught—you only learn that something is ‘not normal’ or ‘ugly’ or whatever from the outside world. It is really what you learn, absorb, and what you teach.”

The star also opened up about her time in Kenya with social conscious jewelry charity ME to WE.

“I was in Kenya last August [with ME to WE]. It was amazing. I got the chance to talk to one of the mamas in the community and learn of her experience. Seeing her interact with the kids and interact with the people, and the respect that she had for them and they had for her, it was really beautiful.”

The star reveals that the only reason she left the amazing experience was because she got a call from Beyonce —and we all know you don’t turn down a call from Beyonce.

“I didn’t want to leave Kenya—until I got the call to do the red carpet with Beyoncé for the VMAs. I definitely want to go back, though. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to go [to Kenya] because going in with an open mind allowed me to absorb so much more of the culture, the food, the people, the atmosphere, and everything that they were doing.”

What To Know About The Breast Implants Linked To Cancer

In a recent announcement, the FDA says that though rare, breast implants are linked to a type of cancer.

Nine women in the U.S. have died due to a rare cancer associated with their breast implants, federal officials announced on Tuesday.

The U.S. Food and Drug Association (FDA) reported that as of Feb. 1, the agency had received 359 reports of a cancer of the immune system, called anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), linked to breast implants. According to the FDA the risk for the cancer appears to be higher with textured breast implants as opposed to smooth ones, but the agency is not yet sure why.

The FDA was able to determine whether the surfaces of the implants were textured or smooth for 231 of the implants. Among those, 203 were textured, compared to 28 that were smooth.

About 300,000 women in the U.S. get breast implants each year, and cancer from the implants is rare. However, the potential risks raise questions.

What are textured implants made of?

There are two types of breast implants that are approved in the United States: saline or silicone gel-filled implants. All breast implants have an outer layer that is made of silicone, but they can have different shapes, sizes and textures. They can also vary in thickness.

How common are textured implants?

Currently there are no publicly available numbers to indicate how common textured implants are versus smooth ones, but according to Dr. David Song, the immediate past president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), textured implants are very common. “I think surgeons use them interchangeably,” he says, adding that the link between textured implants and a higher risk for ALCL is still not confirmed. “It’s still exceptionally rare, but it is real, and we want to figure out what the cause is.”

Why are textured implants used?

One of the most common complications associated with breast implants is called capsular contracture, which is when scar tissue forms around the breast implant, making it hard and tight. It can distort the look of the breasts, and in some cases cause pain for women. Some plastic surgeons feel that a textured implant prevents the build up of scar tissue. Textured implants tend to be stiffer, and may be more ideal for people who want an implant with a more distinct shape.

Why might they have a higher risk for cancer?

The FDA says it doesn’t know why the risk appears to be higher with textured implants. The ASPS has an ongoing registry with the FDA where doctors can report suspected cases of ALCL from breast implants in order to learn more.

Some research has suggested that textured implants are more likely than smooth implants to develop a bacterial coating, which may increase the risk of infection, cancer, or implant failure. However, the link is not definitive. The FDA says more research is needed to understand what’s at play.

What else should I know?

Symptoms for breast implant-associated ALCL are persistent swelling or pain around the implant. The symptoms can often appear years after the initial implant procedure. The cancer is rare, but women should also be aware of the fact that the FDA does not consider breast implants to be procedures that last a lifetime.

“The life of these devices varies according to the individual,” Gretchen Burns, a nurse consultant at FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) said in a statement. “All women with implants will face additional surgeries—no one can tell them when.”

The FDA warns that the longer a woman has breast implants, the higher her chance for complications and further surgeries, adding that few women will keep their original implants for 20 to 30 years.

Andre 3000 Partners With Footwear Brand Tretorn

The rapper will also star in the 126-year-old sneaker brand’s fall 2017 campaign.

Andre 3000 has always been known for his unique and elevated taste in fashion so it makes sense that he’s officially teaming up with Swedish sneaker brand Tretorn.

According to WWD, the label is enlisting 3000 to draw in the millennial crowd that sees him as a mainstay and someone who isn’t the “flavor of the month.”

“It was very serendipitous,” says Nick Woodhouse, ABG’s president and chief marketing officer. “We wanted to work with Andre because he resonates with all ages and he’s an OG. He’s not a flavor of the month. There are a lot of terrific, young influencers out there, but Andre is established. These young kids are reaching out to him to collaborate. That’s why we did this.”

The rapper will design a capsule collection of footwear set to hit stores in 2018 and appear in the brand’s global campaign for fall celebrating the 50th anniversary of their popular Nylite sneaker.

We’re just happy we’ll be seeing more of Andre 3000 come fall 2017.
